It’s hard to surprise us with a book premise, but this week’s story pulled it off!
We’re discussing More Than You Know by Jennifer Altman, a Pride and Prejudice variation with a twist we’ve never seen before: Elizabeth is paired with Bingley (!!), and Darcy is hiding a mysterious secret that had us eagerly turning the pages. The setup felt fresh and full of promise, and honestly, that kind of originality is getting harder to come by 😜
But oh, Darcy. Even with a sympathetic backstory, his relentless stubbornness in the second half of the book really wore on us. We unpack what worked, what left us a little frustrated, and what felt emotionally authentic for the character.
Plus, a brief detour into Sense and Sensibility, where Emilie’s teenage daughter challenges the moral integrity of Edward Ferrars (and… we might just have to agree with her).

Is it ever okay to lie to "protect" someone? That’s the big question we wrestle with this week as we dive into Amy D’Orazio’s Done for the Best. In this Pride and Prejudice variation, Darcy makes a very bold choice: after Elizabeth loses her memory, he lets her believe they’re engaged—even though they’re not. Cue all the ethical dilemmas. Was it selfless? Was it selfish? And is “done for the best” ever really a good enough excuse?
Along the way, we veer into real-life relationship territory—when is omission just privacy, and when is it actually deception? Emilie shares her personal litmus test for honesty (kind, true, and necessary), while Alicia opens up about the tricky gray areas of trust and how much we really owe people in terms of full disclosure. We also dive into the awkward social minefield of pregnancy etiquette (please don’t ask unless you know), reflect on maternal instinct versus medical advice, and detour through ’90s movie nostalgia, featuring everything from While You Were Sleeping to Flubber. Turns out, memory loss isn’t the only thing that’s complicated.

We couldn’t wait to welcome Elizabeth Adams back for her third visit to the podcast, and trust us—she did not disappoint! This time, we dive deep into her epic reimagining Sons of Pemberley, a richly layered story that explores what might have happened if Lady Anne Darcy had survived. Spoiler: everything changes.
In this conversation, we cover everything from character arcs and alternate timelines to the surprising ways a book can take on a life of its own. Emilie and Elizabeth swap insights about Lady Anne’s transformation into the emotional center of the story, Lady Maryanne’s unexpected emergence as a featured character, and how friendship, adoption, and beauty are intricately woven throughout the narrative. There’s also a healthy dose of behind-the-scenes author talk—deleted scenes, writing during toddler nap times, and the pressures of crafting a dual-timeline novel with dozens of characters.
Whether you’ve read Sons of Pemberley once or five times, you’ll love this peek into the heart and mind behind the story. And if you haven’t read it yet… consider this your sign!

In this episode of The Pride and Prejudice Book Club, we dive into Elizabeth Adams’ sweeping alternate universe tale, Sons of Pemberley. This rich reimagining had us reflecting on everything from the impact of childhood relationships to the quieter tragedies and triumphs of our lives.
We loved discussing the novel’s unique premise—what if Lady Anne Darcy never died? That single change creates an entire cast of new and altered characters, and a world where Darcy doesn’t arrive at Netherfield alone but with a whole crew of siblings, cousins, and childhood friends. While Darcy and Elizabeth are still at the heart of the story, the emotional center here belongs to Lady Anne and George Darcy, whose heartbreaking and beautifully written love story had us both tearing up more than once.
We explored how the book's flashbacks added depth and poignancy, particularly through themes of grief, partnership, and the complicated bonds of family. While we wanted more from some characters’ arcs, there’s no denying how much we appreciated the attention to emotional realism and generational influence.
And yes, we also went on a few tangents—this is us, after all! Superhero fatigue, cousin dynamics, the eternal quest for more stories about happily married people working through real issues... it’s all in there. Join us as we reflect on the joys of slow-burn stories, emotionally intelligent writing, and the power of a well-drawn supporting cast.

Book Clubbers, we have a very special treat for you this week! We had the distinct pleasure of seeing the 20th Anniversary re-release of Joe Wright’s Pride and Prejudice (2005), starring Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen — and we were so excited afterward that we immediately recorded our thoughts right there in the car (please excuse the less-than-perfect sound quality!).
We talk about the moments that we still love, and get a little nitpicky about some of the choices that were made, but at the end of the day, our love for this adaptation holds strong. Pride and Prejudice forever ❤️

What if your soulmate was revealed from the moment you first dance with them?

This week, we read Bluebells in the Mourning by KaraLynne Mackrory, a Pride & Prejudice variation that opens with an emotional shock: Lydia is dead, and everything changes. The story brushes up against themes of grief and healing, but ultimately keeps things soft and comforting, with lots of Darcy-and-Lizzy time and a surprisingly sweet arc for Mr. and Mrs. Bennet.
We talk about what worked (Georgiana playing matchmaker, Wickham’s comeuppance, low angst all around) and what didn’t quite land (questionable logic leaps, miscommunication galore, and a slightly emo Darcy). There’s also tangents about confiding in near-strangers, and whether it’s better to always support your friends…or call them out.
If you’re in the mood for a variation that’s light on angst and wraps up neatly, this one might be for you!

What if Elizabeth and Darcy had met before Netherfield—only for things to go terribly wrong?
This week, we’re talking about A Shared History by Abigail Sheffield, a dual-timeline Pride and Prejudice variation that asks: can you rebuild something beautiful after a painful ending?
With strong Persuasion energy and a narrative that moves between past and present, this story explores what happens when deep hurt meets enduring love. We dive into all the messy, relatable parts of learning to trust again, what it takes to offer a second chance, and how to know when someone’s really changed.
We also take a few side quests along the way—into Little Women adaptations, pre-pandemic moviegoing, and quick stops at Grey’s Anatomy, Harry Potter, and Barbie.
This variation gave us all the emotional complexity we love in a second-chance romance—and reminded us just how satisfying it is when Elizabeth and Darcy finally find their way back to each other.
P.S. Be honest—how did you feel about Emma Watson as Meg? Let us know in the comments!

We’re back with a full-blown Austen murder mystery this week, and honestly? We were into it. Alicia and Emilie dive into Some Particular Evil by Amelia Stratford—a gripping “who-done-it” where Elizabeth goes full detective mode and Darcy’s on the run (and in disguise, no less).
We talk red herrings, a suspiciously helpful Colonel Fitzwilliam, and a truly unhinged Anne de Bourgh. Plus, how believable was Lizzy and Darcy’s letter-fueled romance? And did the secret boxing subplot actually go anywhere? (Spoiler: we were waiting for someone to get punched.)
The conversation also takes a thoughtful turn when Lady Anne’s storyline opens up a personal discussion about postpartum depression and the quiet networks of support women build for each other. And yes—somehow we end up reminiscing about the Clue movie and old-school VHS commercials. If you ever rewound your favorite 90s movie with a pencil, this episode is for you.
It’s twisty, it’s layered, it’s not Death Comes to Pemberley—and we’re here for it.

Book Clubbers, we’re back with a light and fluffy modern variation of Pride and Prejudice — and this time, it’s set in Canada! Join us as we dive into All the Wrong Notes by Riana Everly, where Elise and Will get off on the wrong foot (shocking, we know), and somehow end up navigating romance, trust issues, and choral performances.
We chat through the modern take on Wickham — a financial saboteur named Kevin — and how the story skips the classic “Hunsford Proposal” drama to give us something rare: a couple that gets together and actually stays together.
Is it a little silly? Yes. But is it sweet and surprisingly comforting? Also yes. And of course, we wrap it all up with our book ranking — and a tease of the who-done-it mystery we’re reading next.
Talk at ya later!
